Installation Day!

Monday June 3 - Bike Ride

We got some great views on our bike ride today.

Monday - May 27

Today, the reporter returned to interview us and see our progress toward the show we will have on June 6th.

Afterwards, we decided to ride our bikes to the nearby grocery store about 6 km away.  We treated ourselves with a wonderful ice cream.

My bike has a basket on the front.  When it had the groceries in the front, it was a bit top heavy.   I came across a rough area, and lost control and took quite a tumble, landing on my hip, then bumping my head in the middle of the street.  Amazingly, I am fine.  I don't even have a bruise.

                                               

Friday & Saturday - May 24 & 25 - Berlin

We had a marvelous trip to Berlin, even though it rained on us all day the second day.  We traveled by trian and the station was an architectural marvel.  When we arrived, we bought museum passes, which got us into all of the museums.  Thanks to my sweet husband who sent me a copy of my faculty ID, we were able to get the tickets for only $12.  We spent the first day on Museum island.  The first museum was the Pergamon museum which contained the alter of Zues.

 

We had a leisurely lunch in an outdoor cafe, and the sparrows were waiting for us to finish.  Larry literally fed them from his hand.

The next day, we went to a bunker that had been turned into a contemporary art gallery.  Then, we continued to the museums, the Berlin Wall, the Holocaust Memorial, and the Brandenburg Gate.

I don't remember walking so much in my life.  We were worn out and got on the train to return to the art farm in Hilmsen.

Today, I stayed in and painted all day.  I finished my first painting.  In the evening I cooked chicken with mushrooms in white wine.  Yum!

Today we painted.  We took a break and went to Dahre to get ice cream.  We then went to a Medieval village with an amazing windmill in Diesdorf.

Today was Pentecost, and we had lunch with Hans & one of his sons, Catrine & her son and her mother.  It was a lovely meal with schnitzel, potatoes, white asparagus, and a lovely strawberry shortcake (of sorts). 

Everything closes down for two days, so we enjoyed the local area.  Here are two views of our area.

Today, we set up our studio to work.  We went grocery shopping, and I also bought a couple more canvases.  Because the bicycle Hans had for me was too big, he bought me another one that is just right.  We went to an art show that had some beautiful pieces of pottery by an artist friend of Hans.  While traveling to and fro, we saw some of the watch towers that separated Germany for so many years.

We went back to Salzwadel by bus and spent the day walking through the town and taking some good pictures.

Later, we went by bike to Hilmsen, just around the corner from the Farm.

Today we toured Salzwadel, while Hans went to the movies with his son.  We had a good dinner in an open air restaurant.  Here is Larry having fun making art.

Wednesday, May 15

We toured Hans' art exhibit, then went to Leipzig to buy art supplies.  We visited some great galleries in the art district.
